January

by Robbie Gamble

Fingernail moon
a feeble scratch on the star-pocked vault
dim as the gaunt pilot guttering
our kitchen stove,
encroachment of snow-crusts all around.
Neighbor,
how rigorous this cold little world is for now
yet how it will burn.
