he tried to imagine a village prior to it being removed
from sacred land: so he visited the 7.7 acre site located
in lower manhattan. he pulled the history of his people
from what was leftover: an anthropology deviance after
the wrecking was done.

in retrospect it made sense to start with tragedy: to begin
with the temptation of touching your lover covered with
proof of his own disobedience.

what began as a resonance unencumbered ended
with an unlocking of bones & breath from sinew
& flesh.

each sunday in mass the priest says: this is my body
which is given for you. do this: for the remembrance
of me. so he does. he takes body after body into his
own & calls himself: defender of the faith.

how quickly we arrive at conclusions: making exiles
of refugees. so forgive us: for we knew from the start
this city of bones would one day fall.
